This beautiful, often made, Wadden trip from Makkum to West Terschelling and back is a gem.
You experience the Wad optimally. It already starts in Makkum if you sniff the salty air that comes from behind the dike with a northerly wind.
As soon as the lock gates of Kornwerd open, you can hear the sizzling salty water. This is where the real Wadden trip starts. It will be around high water so all plates are still invisible.
But then with the descending water, sailing north across the Inschot or via Harlingen, the plates on both sides of the boat slowly dry up.
There is a good chance that you will see seals resting on the drying-up plates.
Somewhere against low tide we arrive at Terschelling.
Time to discover the island.
Rent a bike and drive to the hotel to check in quickly.
Then jump on the bike again and discover the pleasant village or cycle to the North Sea beach which is only half an hour cycling through the dune.
Port of Makkum
09:00 – 10:00 hour
17:00 hour
Reception with coffee, whipped cream, something tasty and a Muider skipper bitter.
Sea, nature, open water, sometimes rough but also often very quiet.
A medium-sized village (West-Terschelling) with many shops and restaurants.
An island with a lot of nature, dunes, forest, Wadden beach, North Sea beach.
A real holiday trip, real sailing.
The boat will be ready in the port of Makkum from 9 a.m.
The departure time is partly dependent on the tide. As soon as the sailing date is known, I can inform you of the sailing time.
Makkum itself has a nice village center with shops, supermarkets and restaurants.
You will be warmly welcomed by the skipper aboard the Lemsteraak LE16.
First, of course, get to know the ship so that you immediately feel at home.
The coffee, whipped cream, something tasty and a Muider bipper bitter is ready.
Palaver The nautical consultation. The skipper tells you what awaits you; weather, wind, things like that. And of course something about the ship. Together you discuss how to sail and then it starts.
The ETA cannot be specified in advance. After all, wind, waves and sailing time is not yet known.
Yet there is always time to explore the island and the village. The nicest point to have a nice drink is the terrace of the Groene Walvis. It has a view over the Wad and the island of Vlieland
Depending on the tide you have more or less time in the morning.
Are we early and is the swimming weather then we often drop anchor in the bowl at Kornwerd for swimming and a pleasant After Sail
That is the target time.
Unfortunately, it is the end of a spectacular sailing trip
